Department of Paediatrics

The department was founded in 2003. Since then it has been actively engaged in patient care, teaching and research. The Pediatric section occupies the second floor in the medical college; the Neonatology section occupies the first floor.

The department has a spacious and well-ventilated OPD in the second floor of the main block with adequate natural lighting. A large waiting area and registration area is present with separate cubicles for immunization and injection. Immunization is given on all days and adequate provision for cold chain.

The Pediatric ward is situated in the same floor to expedite care for patients being admitted from the OPD. It has 120 beds, a separate nursing station, procedure room and adequate toilet facilities. The rooms for the entire faculty adjoin the OPD and wards and this facilitates immediate and round the clock patient care.

The department has a four-bedded Pediatric ICU in the third floor of the hospital, which is equipped with the latest ventilator equipment, monitors, and infusion and syringe pumps. Sick patients who visit the Emergency Department of the hospital are attended to by the pediatricians then and there and are transferred to the ward or the PICU as required.

The Neonatology Department is situated on the first floor in proximity to the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, the labour rooms and the operation theatre. A separate team of doctors with one associate professor, one assistant Professor, postgraduates and CRRIs are posted exclusively for the Neonatology Section. The Neonatology and Well baby Clinic function on all days. All high risk deliveries are attended to by an assistant Professor and postgraduate. The NICU is equipped with the latest ventilators and monitors.
