Department of General Surgery organized a Guest Lecture on Over view of Breast Cancer on 28.10.2022. Guest Speaker: Dr. Ravishankar, M.S., DNB (ONCO SURGERY) Senior Consultant Apollo Cancer Institute, Teynampet and SIMS Hospital, Vadapalani. Doctors know that breast cancer occurs when some breast cells begin to grow abnormally.
These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do and continue to accumulate, forming a lump or mass. Cells may spread (metastasize) through your breast to your lymph nodes or to other parts of your body. Mammography is the most common screening test for breast cancer. Cancer begins when healthy cells in the breast change and grow out of control, forming a mass or sheet of cells called a tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used to screen women who have a high risk of breast cancer. Whether a woman should be screened for breast cancer and the screening test to use depends on certain factors.
